The mountains in this state run from the northern panhandle in Idaho—with beautiful lakes and forests—down to the Boise area—the state capital and main commercial center. The eastern part of the state is also very mountainous and full of small and friendly communities. Be sure to visit Sun valley and Idaho Falls. Also their many ski resorts.

Priest Lake Museum - The museum building was constructed in 1935 by Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). It is a prime example of handcrafted oil-treated tamarack (larch) log construction. The museum houses numerous articles and displays that depict the colorful history of the lake and the surrounding area.
Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge - 230 bird species and 45 mammals have been observed on this 2,774 acre sanctuary. Moose, deer and elk are among some of the animals found here as well as large colonies of migratory birds including Tundra swans. Several foot trails provide views of wildlife habitats and excellent photographic and bird watching opportunities.
Silverwood Theme Park - Silverwood is the Northwest's largest theme park. Here you will experience earth-shaking roller coasters, dazzling entertainment, and Victorian charm.
Sierra Silver Mine Tour - Experience first-hand underground mining in one of North Idaho's silver mine, guided by an experienced miner who takes you through the working aspects and equipment of the mine, along with a guided ride on a trolley through Historic Wallace.
Rider Ranch - Family owned and operated Rider Ranch is a working cattle and horse ranch just 20 minutes east of Coeur d'Alene. The ranch offers horseback riding and horse drawn hayrides. Reservations are required for all activities and group sizes are limited to ensure a quality experience.
Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre - Established in 1967, The Carrousel Players is Idaho's oldest performing arts organization. The organization specializes in the production of full-scale Broadway musicals during a 12 week, 36 performance season during June, July and August at Schuler Auditorium on the campus of North Idaho College by the shore of lake Coeur d'Alene.
Crystal Gold Mine - Authentic 1880's underground gold mine. A guided underground tour explains how miners drilled, traced veins and tested for gold. Underground mine tours, museum and gift shop are open all year with seasonal gold panning.
Sixth Street Melodrama - Since 1984, this unique year-round theatre has encouraged audience participation Tuesday through Saturday each July and August during one-hour melodramas that reflect the area's mining background. Summer plays are followed by KELLYS ALLEY REVUE, during which families enjoy old-fashioned music and humor.
Wallace District Mining Museum - The Silver Valley is the richest silver mining region in the world. In just one hundred years, over ONE BILLION ounces of silver have been taken from mines in this valley. The museum captures the impact of mining history with artifacts and exhibits depicting the hardships, toils and home life of the period.
Panida Theater - The Panida Theatre opened as a vaudeville and movie house in 1927. Then, as now, its name reflected its mission: to showcase great performers and performances for audiences of the PANhandle of IDAho. As the area's only performing arts facility its 566 seat auditorium provides a comfortable audience size for many productions.
Coeur d'Alene Resort - A Resort on the Lake is a world-class resort on the north shore of Lake Coeur d'Alene. It's waterfront setting offers a diverse menu of aquatic activities ranging from lake cruises to sailing to jet skis to parasailing. Away from the lake, guests can play the world's only floating golf green or challenge the powder blankets on north-facing slopes at Silver Mountain in nearby Kellogg.
Appaloosa Museum - At the Appaloosa Museum, visitors learn about the history of the Appaloosa horse, which is as unique and colorful as its coat pattern. Exhibits explore the evolution of the breed, its importance to local Native American cultures, its role in the lives of cowboys, rodeos and circuses, and the history of the Appaloosa Horse Club.Lewis Clark Center for Arts and History - Located in the heart of historic downtown Lewiston, the mission of The Center for Arts & History is to enhance the visibility of Lewis-Clark State College through quality programs in performing arts, visual arts and literary arts. It provides educational opportunities in arts and history for students of all ages and serves as a regional resource for arts and culture.
Idaho Repertory Theatre - The Theatre is one of the oldest professional summer theatres in the Northwest and a major cultural resource for dozens of communities in north Idaho. Four plays are produced each summer during the six-week, and presented in classic repertory format for a total of 32 performances. In recent years, the typical season has featured a mystery or drama, a comedy, a musical and a Shakespeare.
Wolf Education and Research Center - The Wolf Education and Research Center is dedicated to providing public education and scientific research concerning the gray wolf and its habitat in the Northern Rocky Mountains. The Center will provide the public with the rare opportunity to observe and learn more about the wolf in its natural habitat.Clearwater Historical Museum - Clearwater Historical Museum welcomes visitors to view their collections that focus on the people and history of Clearwater County and its environs. The museum collections include over 4,500 historical photographs, Nez Perce Indian artifacts, mining and Logging tools, Chinese artifacts, antique guns and lots more.
Roaring Springs Water Park - Roaring Springs Water Park delivers a day filled with fun in the sun for all ages. The park offers everything from exhilarating tube rides to playful kiddie pools.The Discovery Center of Idaho - Boise's hands-on science museum. The Center is a laboratory where families are actively and directly involved in scientific exploration. Each 'hands-on' exhibit requires you to do something to learn the science behind the exhibit.
Activity Barn - The Activity Barn is a family owned and operated business offering tubing, sleigh rides and over 4 miles of groomed trails for cross-country skiing.
Basque Museum & Cultural Center - The Basque Museum and Cultural Center has become one of Idaho's finest cultural institutions, interpreting the unique Basque Heritage for the public through a variety of educational programs, lectures and presentations, exhibits, and classes in the Basque language, dance, and music.
Idaho Botanical Garden - The Garden occupies 50 acres that originally served as the farm and nursery for the Idaho State Penitentiary. The Garden has blossomed into 13 specialty gardens, each with a unique focus on Herb, Rose, Alpine, Contemporary English, Outlaw Field, Butterfly & Hummingbird, Iris, Meditation, Water, Cactus, Peony, Children, and Idaho Native Plants and the Dod Dick Outdoor Classroom.
Idaho Historical Museum - The Idaho State Historical Museum, founded in 1907, is Idaho's largest and most visited museum. Objects from the Museum's collection tell the story of Idaho from prehistoric times through the fur trade, the gold rush, and pioneer settlement to the present. Richly detailed interiors show how Idahoans in the late 19th and 20th centuries lived and conducted business.
Idaho Black History Museum - The mission of the Idaho Black History Museum is to educate individuals of all races about the history and culture of African Americans with special emphasis on the Idaho African American experience.
Boise Art Museum - The Boise Art Museum is nationally recognized for leadership, innovation and excellence in the visual arts. The Boise Art Museum champions excellence in the visual arts through exhibitions, collections and educational experiences.

World Center for Birds of Prey - The World Center for Birds of Prey is The Peregrine Fund's world headquarters. The center houses about 200 falcons, condors, and eagles for breeding. Research is underway on nutrition, behavior, and many other topics to help better understand birds of prey and their requirements. The center also offers an education program and the Velma Morrison Interpretive Center.
World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame - The World Sports Humanitarian Hall of Fame honors world-class athletes who are role models and humanitarians. Displays include artifacts and photos about the positive aspects of sports in human life and the specific athletes chosen for the honor.
Idaho Military History Museum - The Idaho Military History Museum has been established for the purpose of 'preservation, display and interpretation of military history and artifacts that have a geographical tie to the history of the people and state of Idaho'.
Warhawk Air Museum - The Warhawk Air Museum is located at the Nampa Municipal Airport and contains a great collection of WWI and WWII vintage planes and war memorabilia.
Idaho State Capitol - Located in the heart of downtown Boise and constructed in the classical style of our nation's Capitol, this majestic sandstone structure was started in 1905 and completed in 1920.
Music Theatre of Idaho - Music Theatre of Idaho provides opportunities for individuals to expand and explore their interests in musical theatre production while presenting the community with professional quality, family-centered, affordable live musical theatre. Further, the MTI seeks to engage and educate persons of all ages through outreach programs centered on live theatre production.
Herrett Center - The Center is primarily an educational institution with program emphasis on elementary and secondary school students. The Center's collections policy states: 'The Herrett Center is dedicated to the preservation, interpretation, acquisition, and exhibition of information and materials derived from or relevant to pre-historic indigenous/native cultures of the New and Old World.'
Shoshone Falls - Shoshone Falls is on the Snake River about four miles east of the City of Twin Falls, Idaho. Here you can see a magnificent waterfall sculpted by the river modified by the action of one of the greatest floods in the history of the world.

Lava Hot Springs - Idaho's World Famous Hot Springs & olympic Swimming Complex offers great fun for the entire family. The facility offers hot mineral baths that are sulfur and odor free as well as an olympic swimming pool with 10 meter diving platforms and two slide tubes. Many people visit the springs to relax and enjoy the mental and physical benefits of the hot mineral water.

The National Oregon/California Trail Center - The National Oregon/California Trail Center is a community volunteer organization dedicated to promoting the pioneer trails in the state of Idaho and surrounding states. A tour includes the incredible Clover Creek Wagon Encampment, a mercantile, gun shop, and livery stable. Visitors can even take a wagon ride on the trail inside the Center.Idaho Potato Expo - Located in Blackfoot, Idaho, the Potato Expo provides information about the potato, its history, agriculture and importance.

Idaho Museum of Natural History - The mission of the Idaho Museum of Natural History is to acquire, preserve, study, interpret and display objects relating to the natural history of Idaho and the Northern Intermountain West for research and education. The Museum seeks to enhance in the citizens of Idaho and visitors an understanding of and delight in Idaho's natural and cultural history.

Teton Flood Museum - Rexburg was struck by a disasterous flood on June 5, 1976, when the Teton Dam broke. A model of the dam before it broke is one of the first things you'll see in the museum. The museum is filled with old things from bathtubs to musical instruments. Not all of the things pertain to the flood, but most survived the catastrophe.
Idaho Rocky Mountain Ranch - Unique log lodge and cabins on 1,000 Scenic Acres. Activities include unlimited hiking, horseback riding, fishing, biking, whitewater rafting, kayaking, natural hot springs swimming pool and other water sports in the surrounding Area. The ranch's Summer season is June to mid September.African Fine Arts - Museum quality collectibles and original works of art from Southern, Central and Western Africa. Galleries feature masks, carvings, mohair tapestries, baskets, African music, furnishings and sculptures.
Lemhi County Museum - This museum offers the unique Ray Edwards Oriental Collection, donated by a local man who traveled extensively in Asia in the 1920's. Other exhibits include Lemhi Shoshoni Indian artifacts including headdresses and peace pipes.

Sun Valley also offers a wide variety of other outdoor activities such as mountain biking, horseback riding, ice skating, golf and hiking.Company of Fools - Company of Fools is a professional, nonprofit theatre committed to developing and sustaining a company of theatre artists that stage productions in the Wood River Valley, in greater Idaho and in the United States. Production focus is given to selected works that deal with 'the human heart in conflict with itself' and to an American perspective of these works.
City of Rocks National Reserve - "We encamped at the city of the rocks, a noted place from the granite rocks rising abruptly out of the ground," wrote James Wilkins in 1849. "They are in a romantic valley clustered together, which gives them the appearance of a city." Wilkins was among the first wagon travelers to fix the name City of Rocks to what looked like "a dismantled, rock-built city of the Stone Age."Craters of the Moon National Monument - The Craters of the Moon Lava Field covers 618 square miles and is the largest young basaltic lava field in the conterminous United States. The monument preserves 83 square miles of it for the enjoyment of present and future generations. The park contains more than 20 volcanic cones including outstanding examples of spatter cones. There are 60 different lava flows on the surface, and they range in age from 15,000 to just 2,000 years old.
Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument - Hagerman Fossil Beds NM contains the largest concentration of Hagerman Horse fossils in North America. The Monument is Internationally significant because it protects the world's richest know fossil deposits from a time period called the late Pliocene epoch, 3.5 million years ago. These plants and animals represent the last glimpse of time that existed before the Ice Age, and the earliest appearances of modern flora and fauna.
Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail - This site celebrates the heroic expedition of the Corps of Discovery, led by Captain Meriwether Lewis and Captain William Clark. Thirty three people traveled with them into unknown territory, starting near what is now known as Wood River, Illinois in 1804, reaching the Pacific Ocean in 1805 and returning in 1806.
Nez Perce National Historic Park - For thousands of years the valleys, prairies, mountains and plateaus of the inland northwest have been home to the Nez Perce people. The Park contains 38 sites, mostly in Idaho, but others that follow a trail from the Wallowa mountains of Oregon, through central Idaho, Wyoming and Montana - 1500 miles all together.Oregon National Historic Trail - As the harbinger of America's westward expansion, the Oregon Trail was the pathway to the Pacific for fur traders, gold seekers, missionaries and others. Beginning in 1841 and continuing for more than 20 years, an estimated 300,000 emigrants followed this route from Independence, Missouri to Oregon City, Oregon on a trip that took five months to complete. The 2,170 mile long trail passes through Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Idaho and Oregon.
Yellowstone National Park - By Act of Congress on March 1, 1872, Yellowstone National Park was "dedicated and set apart as a public park or pleasuring ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people" and "for the preservation, from injury or spoilation, of all timber, mineral deposits, natural curiosities, or wonders. . . and their retention in their natural condition." Yellowstone is the first and oldest national park in the world.
