Historical Museum At Fort Missoula - The Museum was established in 1975 to collect, preserve, and interpret the history of Missoula County, Fort Missoula, and the timber products industry in western Montana for the education, recreation, and cultural enrichment of visitors and area residents. It is located on 32 acres at the core of historic Fort Missoula. The Museum has over 22,000 objects in its collection.

National Museum of Forest Service History - From the time the Forest Reserves were set aside in 1891, our nation's forests and range lands have had a rich, colorful history. The National Museum of Forest Service History (NMFSH) seeks to construct a facility that will capture and interpret this history for future generations. The goal is to dedicate the Museum Complex during 2005, The 100th Anniversary of the USDA Forest Service.

Wild Eyes Animal Adventures - Professional and amateur photographers alike, as well as pure animal lovers can experience this once in a lifetime adventure in the picturesque countryside of Montana. Imagine playing with the wolves, holding a European hawk on your arm, having that bobcat or Canadian Lynx nudging you or that mystic eye-to-eye contact with the Siberian tiger with no fence between you!

Missoula Children's Theatre - For almost 30 years Missoula Children's Theatre has provided quality education, entertainment and enrichment for all ages through the performing arts.

Miracle of America Museum - Miracle of America Museum and Pioneer Village is Western Montana's largest museum with over 100,000 items! The museum tracks America's progress from the Walking-Plow to Walking on the Moon.  The museum is open daily year-round.

 

Big Sky Waterpark - Big Sky Waterpark is the largest Water Park in Montana! With 10 waterslides, Krazy Kars - the Flathead's first bumper car ride, a hot tub, volleyball court, mini golf, antique carousel, arcade, gift shop, picnic areas and more all nestled against the Rocky Mountains 20 miles west of Glacier National Park.

Central School Museum - The Northwest Montana Historical Society Central School Museum offers a variety of historical photographs, as well as many implements of the farming and logging industries, a fire wagon from 1893, and other items representative of the lives of predecessors in Northwest Montana.

Conrad Mansion National Historic Site Museum - The Conrad Mansion sits proudly today on the edge of the original townsite, atop a bluff overlooking the valley and the Swan mountain range. The home is located on three landscaped acres and features original furnishings and accessories, extensive collections include original family clothing, dating from the 1880s to 1940s, and three generations of children's toys and dolls.

Fairmont Hot Springs Resort - Fairmont Hot Springs Resort is cradled by the Continental Divide, located between Butte and Anaconda Montana. Fairmont is a year round, full service Hot Springs and Convention Resort with an 18 hole golf course available March through October. Fairmont features two Olympic sized swimming pools, two soaking pools and a 350 foot enclosed waterslide.

Ninepipes Museum of Early Montana - The Ninepipes Museum of Early Montana was established in 1998 to discover and memorialize the history and culture of the Flathead Reservation and early Montana. It is designed for the enrichment, education, and recreation of local residents and visitors.

Marcus Daly Mansion - The home has over 50 rooms with 25 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, 7 fireplaces. The home is three stories for a total of 24,000 square feet, plus a full cement basement. Some of the main rooms include a large living room, a music room, a formal dining room a sun room, a trophy room which was added in 1914, an upstairs sitting room and a third floor billiard hall.

Art Museum of Missoula - The Art Museum is committed to educating the community through art and to developing and conserving the Art Museum Collection in order to preserve and make accessible their unique cultural heritage. The Art Museum develops and hosts 12 to 16 exhibitions annually in three galleries located in a 1903 Carnegie Library building.

World Museum of Mining - The World Museum Of Mining, a national historical site, is dedicated to preserving the mining, ethnic, and social history of Butte, Montana. This museum, with displays both indoors and outdoors, is a far cry from the quiet of a big city museum. If you are in Montana, don't miss The World Museum Of Mining.

Archie Bray Foundation - Founded in 1951, the Bray is a non-profit, educational institution dedicated to the enrichment of the ceramic arts, offering residencies and specialized workshops to ceramic artists from around the world. Located on the 26-acre site of the former Western Clay Manufacturing Company, the Bray facilities include class facilities, a sales gallery, a summer warehouse gallery and more.

 

Holter Museum of Art - The Holter Museum of Art serves Montana and neighboring states with quality visual arts exhibitions. The program includes all media, brings national and international exhibits into the region, and provides a much needed venue for local and regional artists.

Montana Historical Society Museum - The Montana Historical Society Museum collects, preserves, and interprets fine art, historical, archaeological, and ethnological artifacts that pertain to Montana and its adjoining geographic region.

Myrna Loy Center - The current mission of the Myrna Loy Center is to present the arts, including media, performing, literary and visual, in an educational context, with challenging and culturally enriching programs that would not otherwise appear in the Helena area or in Montana.

The Arts Chateau Museum - The museum is a 26-room, four floor historic mansion built by Charles Walker Clark in 1898. Presently the museum has two changing exhibition galleries, one permanent collection gallery, a sales gallery, and a new interactive youth project room.    Russell Country

 

Blaine County Museum - Extensive exhibits tell the story of the Nez Perce Indians, the pioneer days of the cowboy, the hardships of the homestead era, and follow Blaine County through two World Wars. The audiovisual presentation '40 Miles to Freedom' is one of the highlights of the museum.

Lewis and Clark N.H.T. Interpretive Center - Located on a bluff overlooking the Missouri River in Giant Springs Heritage State Park. The 25,000 square foot building includes 5,500 square feet of permanent exhibit hall, a 158-seat theater, an education room for hands-on activities, retail store, administrative area, and 1,600 square foot traveling exhibit hall.

CM Russell Museum - Established in 1953, the C.M. Russell Museum owns the most complete collection of Charles Russell art and personal objects in the world. The permanent collection is comprised of over 12,000 art works and objects.

Museum of the Upper Missouri - The history of Fort Benton and the Upper Missouri River region from 1800 to 1900 is yours to explore at this Museum. It highlights the important role Fort Benton played in the settlement of the American West as a trading post, military fort and the head of steamboat navigation on the Missouri River.


Museum Of The Northern Great Plains - In the northern reaches of the United States lays the vast expanse known as the Northern Great Plains. Once the domain of vast herds of buffalo, native hunters, and fur traders. The story of these people, their way of life and how they settled this land, is yours to explore at the Museum of the Northern Great Plains.

Fort Benton - Fur traders, gold seekers, and homesteaders came via steamboats to Fort Benton, the 'Head of Navigation' on the Missouri River. A fur and buffalo robe trading post at first, it became the hub for trade and travel for all of Montana and Western Canada. Old Trail Museum - The museum features three life-size dinosaur models, fossils, Native American artifacts and local history. The museum reflects the rich cultural and natural history of the Rocky Mountain Front area. Enjoy two to ten day hands-on paleontology field classes, available for adults and children, taught by professional paleontology staff.

   Yellowstone Country

 

Museum of the Rockies - The Museum of the Rockies is Montana's premiere natural history museum and home of the Taylor Planetarium. The Museum today is the largest natural history museum in the region with 94,000 square feet under roof. It includes the only Digistar planetarium in the Northern Rockies and has developed a fully interpreted Living History Farm on 11 adjacent acres.

Fly Fishing Discovery Center - A museum and education center operated by the Federation of Fly Fishers. Fly fishing exhibits chronicle the history of fly fishing with displays of rods, reels, lines, float tubes and an extensive collection of outstanding art. Thousands of flies tied by masters from around the world are displayed, including the work of over a dozen FFF Buszek award winners.

Livingston Depot Center - The Depot Center Museum operates from May to October, providing historic and cultural programs for the benefit of Park County residents and visitors form around the world. In the winter months, the Depot seves as a community cultural center, hosting such diverse events as concerts, banquets, holiday programs, and weddings.

Yellowstone Historic Center - The Yellowstone Historic Center seeks to understand, preserve and interpret the unique cultural heritage of West Yellowstone, the Hebgen Lake Basin and their connection to the development of transportation and visitation to Yellowstone National Park. The Center will develop a new museum to house collections, preserving and interpreting them through display and educational programs.

American Computer Museum - One of the world's largest and most comprehensive collections of computer and information age history anywhere on public display.

Gallatin County Pioneer Museum - Visitors can step inside an authentic 1870s log cabin and imagine a family living in a 12-by-14 foot home. Also on display is a model of Fort Ellis (1867-1886), an American Indian exhibit, an agricultural room, and a sheriff's room. Other exhibits feature the story of John Bozeman, the Big Horn Gun, early household items, old automobiles and detailed models of wagons used by pioneers.

Crazy Mountain Museum - The Crazy Mountain Museum is a historical museum featuring exhibits that reflect the history of Sweet Grass County and the surrounding area.In addition to displays, it now includes a research area, including a large master index for individuals mentioned in a wide variety of documents and pictures.

Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center - The Grizzly Discovery Center's primary mission is to provide visitors to the Yellowstone area have an opportunity to learn about and view live grizzly bears and gray wolves.

Yellowstone Gateway Museum - Located in the former North Side School, the Yellowstone Gateway Museum of Park County is home to an extensive collection of artifacts and exhibits featuring Park County, Yellowstone Park, Railroad, Pioneer, and Old West History. Also on display are many items of Park County's natural history, prehistory and geology.

   Missouri River Country

 

Fort Peck Dam Interpretive Center & Museum - The Center features exhibits on wildlife of the C. M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge, paleontology; including a cast of the Tyrannosaurus rex known as Peck’s Rex, Fort Peck Dam construction history, boomtowns, and homesteading. The Center also showcases the two largest aquariums in Montana, displaying native and game fish of Fort Peck Lake and the Missouri River.

Valley County Pioneer Museum - Valley county has a very rich, colorful, and eventful history. Ranging from Lewis and Clark to cowboys and Indians, the railroad, Ft. Peck dam, and the site of one of the major dinosaur finds of the century, valley county pioneer museum reflects the entire community's history.

Garfield County Museum - The museum spotlights the exciting dinosaur discoveries in the nearby Hell Creek fossil beds. An actual Tyrannosaur’s head and a full-size replica of a Triceratops are on display. Sheridan County Museum - Sheridan County Museum is dedicated to the preservation of Montana’s pioneer heritage. The museum also displays works of art by local artists. The museum features a mural painted by a local artist, Bob Southland. Measuring 74 by 4 feet, the mural portrays the story of Sheridan County from the time of the early native Americans until the present era.

Phillips County Museum - Displays include early plains Indian artifacts, homesteading days, ranching and farming in Phillips County, mining, early day schools, mercantile, doctor's office, and many wildlife mounts. The museum also houses a very fine dinosaur collection and many marine fossils found in the area.

Custer Country

 

Alberta Bair Theater - In its brief history, the Alberta Bair Theater has brought to audiences the finest performers in every discipline of the performing arts, including classical and popular music, country music and jazz, opera, ballet, modern and ethnic dance, comedy, drama and musical theater.

Peter Yegen Jr. Yellowstone County Museum - The Museum's Exhibits/Archives include materials specific to Northern Plains Indian Tribes, western expansion, mining, cattle/sheep herding industries, transportation industries, military (1870-1950's), various medical fields, music, textiles, household goods and personal goods.

Powder River H.S. Museum / Mac's museum - The museum contains many valuable historic collections including historic photos and books, Indian artifacts, old guns and ammunition, buggies, old autos, and more. Mac's Museum is a one-man collection of 22,000 sea shells (largest west of the Mississippi), 1723 arrowheads from nearly every state, 2230 mineral specimens, artifacts, bird eggs, butterflies, and much more.

Zoo Montana - Zoo Montana's vision is to become an outstanding zoological and botanical park specializing in northern latitude species. Visitors can see Siberian tigers, playful otters, Sika Deer, gray wolves and many more animals at Zoo Montana.

Yellowstone Art Museum - The mission of the Yellowstone Art Museum is to serve as a leader in the collection, documentation, exhibition, interpretation, and preservation of works of contemporary and historic art, with an emphasis on our region, for the education, inspiration, and enjoyment of the broadest possible audience.

The Moss Mansion Museum - Step into history with a one-hour guided tour of the Moss Mansion Historic House Museum. The tour captures early turn-of-the-century life as the Preston Boyd Moss family lived it. Visitors see original draperies, fixtures, furniture, Persian carpets and artifacts displayed in the 1903 red sandstone structure.

Western Heritage Center - The Western Heritage Center, in downtown Billings, is a regional museum interpreting and reflecting life in the Yellowstone River Valley. The Center cares for a collection of over 16,000 artifacts which provide a tangible record of the region's past.

   National Parks

 

Big Hole National Battlefield - Big Hole National Battlefield is a memorial to the people who fought and died here on August 9 and 10, 1877; combatants in a five month conflict that came to be called the Nez Perce War of 1877. Like other Indian Wars in the late 1800's, the Nez Perce War involved two very different groups with very different outlooks on land rights, civilian authority, government powers, social organization, and the responsibilities of the individuals to society.

Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area - Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area was established by an act of Congress on October 15, 1966, following the construction of the Yellowtail Dam by the Bureau of Reclamation. This dam, named after the famous Crow chairman Robert Yellowtail, harnessed the waters of the Bighorn River and turned this variable stream into a magnificent lake.  Bighorn Lake extends approximately 60 miles through Wyoming and Montana, 55 miles of which are held within spectacular Bighorn Canyon. The Recreation Area is composed of 70,000+ acres, which straddles the northern Wyoming and southern Montana borders.

Glacier National Park - Created in 1910, Glacier National Park provides over one million acres of habitat and protection for a wonderful variety of wildlife and wildflowers.  The geologic history of Glacier is read in the numerous exposed layers of Precambrian sedimentary rocks. These extremely well preserved sediments date back to over 1 billion years. Subsequent sculpting by massive bodies of ice has transformed this area into a dramatic example of glacial landforms. Today several small alpine glaciers of relatively recent origin dot the mountains.

Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site - Established by Canadian fur trader John Grant, and expanded by cattle baron Conrad Kohrs, Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site commemorates the Western cattle industry from its 1850s inception through recent times. The park was enacted in 1972, and embraces 1,500 acres and 90 structures. The site is maintained today as a working ranch.

Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail - This site celebrates the heroic expedition of the Corps of Discovery, led by Captain Meriwether Lewis and Captain William Clark. Thirty three people traveled with them into unknown territory, starting near what is now known as Wood River, Illinois in 1804, reaching the Pacific Ocean in 1805 and returning in 1806.

Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument - Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument is the site of the June 25, 1876 battle between the U.S. Army's seventh cavalry, guided by Crow and Arikara scouts, and several bands of Lakota Sioux, Cheyenne, and Araphaho.

Yellowstone National Park - By Act of Congress on March 1, 1872, Yellowstone National Park was "dedicated and set apart as a public park or pleasuring ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people" and "for the preservation, from injury or spoilation, of all timber, mineral deposits, natural curiosities, or wonders. . . and their retention in their natural condition." Yellowstone is the first and oldest national park in the world.
